Running Pace Calculator
Turn any distance and finish time into your pace and speed — min/km, min/mile, km/h and mph — all at once. Pick a race distance (or a custom one), enter a target time, and read off exactly how fast that is. Open any distance for a full pace chart, kilometre-by-kilometre splits and race-time predictions.
Pace and speed are derived from one exact figure — your speed in metres per second — so min/km, min/mile, km/h and mph all agree and round-trip exactly. 1 mile = 1609.344 m.
Pace & splits by distance
Every distance page has the same calculator plus a pace chart, per-kilometre and per-mile split tables, and Riegel finish-time predictions for the other distances.

Pace ⇆ speed reference (min/km · min/mile · km/h · mph)
Common even paces, each derived from one exact speed so the four columns always agree. A mile is exactly 1609.344 m, so 5:00 /km = 8:02.8 /mile and 12.0 km/h = 7.46 mph.
| Pace /km | Pace /mile | km/h | mph |

| 5:00 | 8:03 | 12 | 7.46 |
| 5:30 | 8:51 | 10.9 | 6.78 |
| 6:00 | 9:39 | 10 | 6.21 |

What the pace calculator does
- One number, four readouts — pace in min/km and min/mile and speed in km/h and mph all come from the same speed in metres per second, so they never disagree and convert back exactly.
- Exact, reversible units — 1 km = 1000 m and 1 mile = 1609.344 m by definition, so min/km ⇆ min/mile and km/h ⇆ mph round-trip to machine precision for any input.
- Even-pace split tables — every distance page breaks the race into per-kilometre and per-mile splits with a running finish-time total, so you can see the clock at each marker.
- Race-time predictions — the Riegel model estimates your equivalent time at other distances from one result; it is the only estimate here and is always labelled as such.
FAQ
How do I calculate my running pace?
Pace is time divided by distance. Run 10 km in 50 minutes and your pace is 50 ÷ 10 = 5:00 per kilometre. This calculator does it the exact way: it first works out your speed in metres per second (distance in metres ÷ time in seconds), then expresses that one number as min/km, min/mile, km/h and mph. Because everything comes from a single speed figure, the four readouts always agree and convert back and forth to machine precision.
What is the difference between pace and speed?
They are the same information written two ways. Pace is time per unit distance (minutes per kilometre or per mile) and gets larger as you slow down; speed is distance per unit time (km/h or mph) and gets smaller as you slow down. 12 km/h is exactly 5:00 /km, and 6:00 /mile is exactly 10.0 mph. Runners usually think in pace, cyclists and treadmills in speed — this tool shows both at once.
How do I convert min/km to min/mile?
Multiply your min/km pace by 1.609344, because a mile is exactly 1609.344 metres. So 5:00 /km × 1.609344 = 8:02.8 /mile, and 4:00 /km = 6:26.2 /mile. To go the other way, divide the min/mile pace by 1.609344. The converter above and the reference table below do this for every pace exactly.
What pace do I need to break a specific finish time?
Pick your race distance and type the target finish time — the calculator shows the even pace per km and per mile you must hold, plus the equivalent km/h and mph. For example, a sub-4:00 marathon needs 5:41 /km (9:09 /mile); a sub-25:00 5K needs 5:00 /km (8:03 /mile). Open a distance page for a full pace chart and kilometre-by-kilometre split table.
How accurate are these conversions?
The pace, speed, time and distance conversions are exact. They use the fixed definitions — 1 kilometre = 1000 m and 1 mile = 1609.344 m — and route every result through your speed in metres per second, so nothing drifts or rounds inconsistently. The only estimate anywhere on the site is the Riegel race-time prediction on each distance page, which is a published model and is always labelled as an estimate.
